Concessions & rebates

Government energy concessions can reduce what you pay. They are run state by state, so where you apply depends on where you live.

/ Overview

Concessions are run by your state government

Energy concessions and rebates are funded and administered by state and territory governments, not by ASENO. Each state sets its own scheme, its own eligibility rules and its own application process, and those rules change from year to year.

In most states a concession cannot simply be added to your bill on request. Find your state below, check the official scheme, and talk to us if you are not sure which one applies to you.

Victoria

Department of Families, Fairness and Housing

Give your concession card details to ASENO and we apply the concession to your account.

New South Wales

Service NSW

Embedded network (on-supply) customers apply directly to Service NSW, not through ASENO.

South Australia

ConcessionsSA

Apply to ConcessionsSA. You will usually need your first ASENO bill before you can apply.

Queensland

Queensland Government

Apply through the Queensland Government. Embedded network customers have their own application path.

/ How it works

Three steps to a concession

01

Check you are eligible

Concessions are generally tied to a Commonwealth concession card, such as a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or DVA card. The official page for your state lists what counts.

02

Apply in the right place

In some states you give your card details to ASENO. In others, including New South Wales embedded networks, you apply directly to the state government yourself.

03

Keep your details current

Tell us and your state scheme if your card, your name or your address changes, so your concession keeps being applied correctly.

If you are also struggling to pay

A concession is not the only help available. If you are having trouble paying an ASENO bill, our hardship support is separate from any government concession and you can use both.

  • Tailored payment plans and payment extensions
  • Help working out which concessions you may be entitled to
  • Support is confidential, and asking early gives us more options
  • Free, independent escalation to the Ombudsman if you are unhappy

/ FAQs

Frequently asked questions

It depends on your state. In some states you give us your concession card details and we apply the concession to your account. In others you have to apply to the state government yourself, and in New South Wales embedded network customers apply directly to Service NSW. Check your state above, or ask us and we will tell you which applies.

Yes. Living in an embedded network does not disqualify you from a government energy concession. It usually changes how you apply rather than whether you can. Several states have a separate application path specifically for embedded network, or on-supply, customers.

It varies by state and scheme, and the amounts are reviewed and indexed each year. We do not publish figures here because they would go out of date. The official page for your state above always shows the current amount.

Usually your concession card, your ASENO account number and the supply address the concession should apply to. Your account number is on your bill.

Concessions can lapse when a card expires or when you move. Check that your card is current and that your details with us and with your state scheme match, then contact us on 1300 027 366 or [email protected] and we will look into it.

Yes. A government concession and ASENO’s hardship support are separate, and you can receive both. If you are having trouble paying, please contact us early.
